IND vs SA 1st Test: The Indian cricket team has faced defeat in the first match of the 2-match Test series against South Africa. Team India’s batsmen failed to chase the target of 124, after which questions were raised on the pitch. But head coach Gautam Gambhir believes that there was no such defect in the pitch. Rather, the batsmen should have batted with patience. During this, he also praised Temba Bavuma.
After the shameful defeat in Kolkata, Gautam Gambhir directly blamed the batsmen. The head coach believes that there was nothing in the pitch that even 124 runs were not chased. He said,
The target of 124 runs was not big, it was the kind of pitch we wanted. This was not a pitch where it was very difficult to bat. The wicket was the same for both the teams. Yes, the ball was spinning and the batsmen should have faced this challenge. One should not have thought about scoring fast runs here. All the batsmen who expressed confidence in their defense have scored runs. Look at Temba Bavuma, he has also scored runs. Sundar has also shown good defence.
In Kolkata, South Africa scored 159 runs while batting first after winning the toss. Jasprit Bumrah took 5 wickets for 27 runs in 14 overs. When it was India’s turn, KL Rahul (39), Washington Sundar (29), Rishabh Pant (27) and Ravindra Jadeja (27) scored 189 runs. India ended its first innings with a lead of 30 runs. The Proteas team put 153 runs on the board in the second innings, due to which India got the target of 124 runs.
Team India’s batting completely flopped in the second innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal (0) and KL Rahul (1) gave a disappointing start. Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant contributed 134 and 2 runs respectively. Washington Sundar (31) and Akshar Patel (26) fought till the end. Despite his efforts, Team India could score only 93 runs.
It is noteworthy that Team India has faced defeat in the last 6 home tests. Last year, they lost 3 out of 3 matches to New Zealand, but this year they gave a clean sweep to West Indies in the 2-match Test series. Now there has been defeat in the very first match against South Africa, due to this it is natural to raise questions on Team India.
