• IPL 2026 Retention Process Complete

  • Punjab Kings released Josh Inglis and Glenn Maxwell

  • Big statement from head coach Ricky Ponting on this decision

IPL 2026 Retention : IPL 2026 Retention Process is complete. After this process all the franchises have also announced their lists of retained and released players. IPL 2025 finalist Punjab Kings have taken some important steps ahead of the upcoming mini-auction. The franchise has released five key players including stalwarts like Josh Inglis and Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell’s performance in recent seasons has not been satisfactory. Which makes his release understandable, but the franchise has also let go of star Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis, much to everyone’s surprise. Because, his English performance was good till last season.

What was the reason for leaving Inglis and Maxwell?

Now you may be wondering why the franchise would have released Inglis and Maxwell before the upcoming season? So head coach Ricky Ponting has given a clear answer to this question. Ponting said the decision to drop Inglis was based on his availability, not his performance.

Ponting added, “Josh (Josh Inglis) is a great player and we wanted to keep him. But he won’t be available for most of the tournament this year, so it would have been very difficult to keep him.” One thing that is clear from Ponting’s opinion is that the decision taken by the franchise regarding Inglis was not deliberate but forced. It is said to be a strategic decision of the team for the upcoming season.

What did Ponting say about Maxwell?

Commenting on the decision to drop Maxwell, Ponting said, “Maxwell is a wonderful cricketer. He has the ability to change the course of the game. But last season, we failed to get the best out of him. Considering the current players and the upcoming season, we don’t think he will be part of our starting XI now. That’s why the early decision to drop him seems right.”
