Tesco has confirmed the locations of 11 new supermarkets that will open to customers in 2026 as part of its expansion plans. The supermarket chain said it plans to bring great quality products at "exceptional value" to even more communities across the UK and is aiming to deliver more than 70 Tesco Express stores before March next year. Tesco already opened 60 new Express stores in 2025 and is continuing its plans to expand its footprint across the country, including growing its larger store estate.

The growth plans has been boosted by the acquisition of five former Amazon Fresh stores in London which are due to reopen as Tesco Express stores before this summer. Further Express stores are also planned for wider areas this year, including in Devon, Torfaen, County Tyrone and East Lothian.

As for larger Tesco supermarkets, following on from the successful launch of two new superstores in Ripon in November and Harrogate in December last year, the chain plans to add two further large stores to its estate in 2026 which will be based in Scotland.

Tesco's new low carbon concept superstore in Harrogate has created around 120 new jobs and has been built using innovative design, technology and building methods to reduce its environmental impact.

Sustainability features include a timber frame which emits less carbon during construction than a steel one, solar panels to generate electricity for the store, and the latest heating and lighting systems to reduce energy consumption.
