Discovering a steal in a charity shop is an incredible sensation. You feel absolutely chuffed that you've snagged something for such a modest sum. Whether you're keeping it for yourself or intending to flog it on Vinted for profit, it's brilliant. From retro jumpers in excellent nick to designer pieces the volunteers failed to recognise as genuinely valuable, there's loads to uncover when you're out hunting for treasures.

When one woman spotted a stunning pair of earrings in a charity shop, she was delighted they'd only cost her £4.50. But the real excitement arrived when she flipped the earrings over and clocked a tiny detail that someone had obviously overlooked.

Natalia Bautina, who frequently showcases her thrift shop finds, was browsing her local Value Village thrift store in British Columbia when the earrings grabbed her eye, and she felt compelled to examine them more closely as they were so dazzling.

Natalia admired the glamorous earrings, which would complement a simple black dress perfectly, displaying them to the camera. The cardboard backing they'd been attached to labelled them as "costume jewellery," but the reality proved far more thrilling.

When she flipped the earrings round to study them properly, she noticed an engraving that left her stunned, because they turned out to be Dior earrings, from the French luxury fashion house, and she was absolutely over the moon with her find.

"I thrift often, so my eye is trained to notice quality. They're gold-tone earrings with an elegant design, and the quality immediately stood out; they feel solid and very well made," Natalia told Newsweek.

At just $5.99 (£4.50), she couldn't resist snapping them up, despite not actually having pierced ears, meaning she won't be wearing them herself. She described the earrings as among her most "memorable" discoveries ever.

In the comments section beneath her video, some viewers questioned whether the earrings were genuine, though this hasn't been confirmed either way. Natalia has visited two separate jewellers seeking authentication, receiving conflicting opinions.

One reckoned they resembled Dior costume jewellery; the other simply admitted they couldn't say for sure.

One commenter wrote: "Accidentally pricing Dior for $6 (£4.50) is the reconciliation we deserve for them selling Shein tank tops for $40 (£29.32) at other places". Another woman revealed she'd nabbed "a Tiffany and Co necklace for $3 (£2.20)" at her local charity shop.

A third lamented having to "leave some YSL shoes behind" because she was "a few bucks short". Absolutely gutting.

Why can charity shops be good for designer items?

Charity shops are a brilliant spot to discover bargain designer pieces, and there are numerous reasons why they present such remarkable opportunities. Firstly, charity shops receive a steady stream of donated items from all sorts of people.

Many donors are folk who may have purchased designer goods previously and, for whatever reason, no longer require or want them.

Occasionally, these pieces are unwanted gifts that didn't quite suit, items from a wardrobe overhaul, or even belongings from people who simply wish to declutter whilst supporting a worthy cause. Because the staff and volunteers at charity shops are frequently sifting through substantial quantities of donations, they might not always identify the genuine value or label of every piece, particularly if it's a more understated or vintage designer brand.

Consequently, premium designer clothing, footwear, or accessories can wind up on the rails priced comparably to ordinary high street labels.

Another factor why charity shops are excellent for uncovering bargains is that their main objective isn't to maximise earnings on each piece, but instead to shift stock rapidly and raise funds for their selected causes. This means pricing tends to be considerably lower than in specialist vintage or consignment outlets, where staff are trained to recognise and price designer items at a premium.

In charity shops, you could stumble upon a designer frock or handbag for a fraction of its original price simply because it's been valued as a standard item. There's also a dash of luck and surprise that makes charity shops so enticing for bargain seekers.

Inventory is always changing, and you never know what treasures you might unearth on any given day. This element of a treasure hunt means that with a bit of patience and a sharp eye, you could discover a rare or valuable designer item that others have missed.

Some charity shops are situated in well-off areas, boosting the chances of receiving high-end donations, but even in less affluent neighbourhoods, hidden gems can be found.

Lastly, shopping in charity shops is not only beneficial for your purse but also for the environment and the community. By purchasing second-hand, you're minimising waste and supporting charitable causes.

So, when you pop into a charity shop in pursuit of inexpensive designer pieces, you're not just bagging a potential bargain, you're also contributing to a cycle of giving and sustainability.
