Labour ministers are starting to turn on Sir Keir Starmer with some highlighting an incredibly lazy habit of his. There have been calls for the Prime Minister to step down, notably from Scotland Labour leader Anas Sarwar, amid the ongoing Mandelson-Epstein scandal.

According to two sources close to Starmer, the Prime Minister "never" communicates with his party or thinks about work over the weekend. One claimed he never contacts his cabinet early on a Monday while a second added "nobody hears" from Starmer between Friday lunchtime and Monday morning.

As reported by The Spectator, one cabinet minister said: "You never get the 7 a.m. call on a Monday because he's been thinking about something over the weekend." Meanwhile, a former aide agreed: "Nobody hears from the guy from Friday lunchtime through till about Monday morning."

It is reported that even Boris Johnson, who was known for a chaos-driven working environment at Downing Street, sent thoughts and ideas to ministers and aides during the weekend. He would also contact them early on Monday mornings.

Scotland Labour leader Anas Sarwar called for Starmer to resign on Monday (February 9), adding that the "distraction" in Downing Street needs to end. He told a press conference that his first priority was to Scotland and that he did not want to "sacrifice" the country to a third decade of an SNP government.

He said: "That's why the distraction needs to end, and the leadership in Downing Street has to change. It is so obvious that we desperately need change in Scotland and in three months' time, the opportunity to get rid of a failing SNP Government is one that is too important to be missed.

"We cannot allow the failures at the heart of Downing Street to mean the failures continue here in Scotland, because the election in May is not without consequence for the lives of Scots."

However, the Prime Minister survived the day of high drama after key members of his cabinet rallied behind him. Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy expressed his public support on social media, posting on X: "Keir Starmer won a massive mandate 18 months ago, for five years to deliver on Labour's manifesto that we all stood on. We should let nothing distract us from our mission to change Britain and we support the Prime Minister in doing that."

Meanwhile, Chancellor Rachel Reeves said: "Rebuilding Britain takes time. But thanks to the decisions we've made NHS waiting lists are falling. Inflation is falling. Interest rates are falling. The conditions for the economy to grow are there. With Keir as our Prime Minister we are turning the country around."
