Smriti Mandhana pipped Rohit Sharma to become India’s highest run scorer in T20I history across men’s and women’s sports on Friday.
Mandhana surpassed Sharma’s tally of 4,231 runs during India’s first T20I against South Africa, which they lost by six wickets.
She now has 4,244 runs in 161 matches at a strike rate of 124.38. She has also hit 33 half centuries and a century, opening the batting.
Mandhana had made her international debut in a T20I against Bangladesh more than a decade ago in 2013.
She has since risen through the ranks to become one of the all-time greats of Indian cricket. She has also led the women in blue in absence of regular skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.
Mandhana is now also the second highest run scorer in women’s T20I history, only behind Suzie Bates of New Zealand, who has scored 4,717 runs in 175 innings.
