The holy journey of Kedarnath Dham is going to be easier now. Where earlier devotees had to climb 8-9 hours of foot on foot, now it will be possible to see Baba Kedar in just 36 minutes. This miracle will be possible a grand ropeway project, which has been approved by the government at a cost of Rs 4,081 crore. This is not only a gift of relief for pilgrims, but will also write a new chapter for the tourism and economy of Uttarakhand.
World's longest ropeway
This ropeway included in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's dream projects will be 13 km long, which will go from Sonprayag to Kedarnath Dham. It is considered to be the longest ropeway in the world. In the first phase, 9.7 km part will be ready from Gaurikund to Kedarnath. This ropeway will be based on Tri-Cable Detachable Gondola (3S) technology, in which 36 passengers will be able to travel at a time. An 18,000 devotees will be able to avail this facility daily and 32 lakh devotees annually. This project, which is prepared in six years, will be operated by a private company for 35 years.
Adani's contribution, government's earnings
In this mega project, Adani Enterprises has proposed 42% revenue sharing. Three of the four bidders have expressed their desire to share income with the National Highway Logistics Management Limited (NHLML). This model will give the government regular revenue without investment, which will contribute to the development of Uttarakhand. This is a great example of the PPP (Public-Private Partnership) model, where private and government sectors together are increasing facilities for the public.
Not only Kedarnath, Hemkund Sahib is also
This scheme is not limited to Kedarnath only. The government has also started another 12.4 km long ropeway project for Govindghat-Ghangharia-Hemkund Sahib, which costs Rs 2,730 crore. With this, 11,000 passengers will be able to travel daily. These projects will not only facilitate pilgrims, but will also promote local tourism. Hotels, guides, and small businesses will get new opportunities, which will improve the livelihood of the local people.
Balance of tourism and environment
A major advantage of the ropeway project is that it is environmentally friendly. It will be helpful in reducing the pressure on waste and natural resources during foot travel. Also, this will prove to be a boon for the elderly and physically disabled. This project will establish Uttarakhand as a modern pilgrimage center, which will attract tourists globally.
New hope for Uttarakhand
The Kedarnath ropeway project is not just a traffic facility, but a new story of Uttarakhand's development. This will strengthen the local economy, create employment opportunities, and improve the experience of pilgrims. This cooperation of the government and private sector will become an example of how the combination of technology and tradition can take India's spiritual heritage to new heights.
