Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The state cyber cell arrested a man from Alirajpur for allegedly sharing a child pornography video on WhatsApp, an officer said on Thursday.
The accused broke the mobile phone and SIM card used in the crime and dumped them in a river so the officials had to spend some time in identifying and arresting the accused.
Surprisingly, in the complaint filed by WhatsApp Inc., US, it was mentioned that the accused had circulated child pornographic content through a WhatsApp app operated using his mobile number.
According to SP (cyber cell) Savyasachi Saraf, the officials had received a complaint through Cyber Tipline of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India that an obscene video of a child was circulated on social media as child pornography content.
A team led by Inspector Vaskale was constituted for the investigation. The officials found that the accused had committed the crime through the WhatsApp app running on his mobile number and email ID, against which a case was registered under Section 67,67 (B) of IT Act.
During the technical analysis of the case, the officials were continuously searching for the accused but he was changing his location as he was employed as a driver with a transporter. Somehow, the officials got his location and he was finally arrested from his house in Alirajpur district.
The accused has been identified as Jitendra Solanki, a resident of Tikhi Imli area in Alirajpur. He allegedly informed the officials that on the day of the incident, the mobile and SIM number with which the crime was committed were broken and thrown into the river.
The accused said that he had posted obscene videos of child pornography content on social media for entertainment.

Use social media platforms carefully.
Uploading, downloading, sharing any obscene content on social media is a legal offence.
Do not let other people use your social media account such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. from your mobile.
Posting, sharing nude videos of minor children on social media is a serious crime under the IT Act.
If in any way obscene content of minor children has been uploaded on any site on social media, then register a complaint on www.cybercrime.gov.in and helpline number 1930.
Other cases
In July 2023, the city police had registered a case against eight people for uploading child pornographic content on social media platforms.
The then DCP Aaditya Mishra had instructed his subordinates to register a case against the accused under the relevant section of the IPC and IT Act. The investigation in these cases is underway.
