‘Hitman’ powers MI to massive win over Rajasthan Royals, becomes only the second player to score 6000+ runs for a single IPL franchise

New Delhi, May 2, 2025 — Rohit Sharma, the legendary opener and Mumbai Indians' batting powerhouse, scripted history during the 50th match of IPL 2025. The seasoned cricketer smashed a fiery half-century against Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, leading Mumbai Indians to a dominant 100-run victory. In doing so, he became only the second player in IPL history to score over 6000 runs for a single franchise, joining Royal Challengers Bangalore star Virat Kohli in the elite club.

Rohit’s Heroics at Sawai Mansingh Stadium

Rohit Sharma, affectionately known as the ‘Hitman’, showcased his vintage form with a sublime knock of 53 runs off just 36 deliveries. His innings, laced with 9 boundaries, set the tone early in the match. Partnering with Ryan Rickelton, the pair stitched together a commanding 116-run opening stand, giving Mumbai a formidable foundation.

Rickelton played a stellar supporting role, scoring 61 runs from 38 balls, including 7 fours and 3 sixes. Thanks to their explosive partnership, Mumbai Indians posted a mammoth total of 217/2 in their allotted 20 overs.

Mumbai Crushes Rajasthan to Claim Sixth Straight Win

In reply, Rajasthan Royals faltered under pressure and were bundled out for just 117 in 16.1 overs. The emphatic win not only extended Mumbai’s winning streak to six consecutive games but also propelled them to the top of the IPL 2025 points table.

A Major Milestone: 6000+ Runs for Mumbai Indians

With his latest innings, Rohit crossed the 6000-run milestone for Mumbai Indians across all T20 competitions, including the now-defunct Champions League T20. Out of these, 5751 runs have come in the IPL alone. He has played 231 matches for MI, maintaining his place as one of the league’s most consistent and dependable performers.

Rohit now joins Virat Kohli, who leads the chart for most runs for a single franchise. Kohli has scored a staggering 8447 runs in 262 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore during his 18-year-long IPL career. Following them on the list are Suresh Raina (5529 runs in 200 matches for CSK) and MS Dhoni (5269 runs in 268 matches for CSK).

Rohit Sharma’s Comeback After a Slow Start

At 37, Rohit Sharma has proven age is just a number. After a sluggish start to IPL 2025, where he struggled in the first six matches, the veteran batter has roared back into form. In his last four outings, he has registered three half-centuries, silencing critics and reaffirming his importance in MI’s batting line-up.

What’s Next for MI and Rohit?

Mumbai Indians look well-poised to secure a playoff berth, and with Rohit Sharma back in rhythm, their title hopes have received a significant boost. His return to form at this crucial juncture of the season is not just a personal triumph but a massive advantage for the five-time IPL champions.

As the league heads into its final stages, fans can expect more fireworks from the ‘Hitman’ as he chases further milestones and aims to lead Mumbai to yet another IPL title.
