The Patna State Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin toured Bihar’s first underground pedestrian subway on Friday. It is now being built close to Patna Junction.
The project, which is being constructed as part of the Smart City plan, aims to link the eastern entrance of Mahavir Temple, which is next to the Patna Junction railway station, with the Multi-Modal Hub at the General Post Office, Golambar.
The goal of the project, which was started under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s guidance, is to reduce traffic congestion and bottlenecks brought on by parking at Patna Junction.
“Our Chief Minister Nitish Kumar started this innovative scheme to improve pedestrian comfort and expedite traffic flow. During the development project’s inspection, Minister Nabin said, “It is the first of its kind in Bihar.”
Four travellators totaling 148 meters, two escalators for smooth vertical movement, two lifts at strategic locations—one close to Mahavir Mandir and the other near the multi-level parking area—and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems for commuter comfort—installed in Patna due to its underground structure—are all features of the 440-meter subway.
In order to relieve traffic at the Patna Junction, Minister Nabin emphasized that cars will be kept at the Multi-Modal Hub.
According to the Minister, pedestrians would subsequently avoid congested roads by going straight to the station via the underground.
He stated that city buses would make it easier to commute to different areas of Patna from the Multi-Modal Hub, which will also function as a major transit hub.
In addition to enhancing traffic control, this subway will represent Patna’s modernization. When finished, it will give the city a new identity,” Nabin said.
He gave the on-site authorities instructions to speed up the remaining tasks and guarantee the project’s early completion.
The goal of the Bihar administration is to finish this project in time for the Assembly election later this year.
Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, has inspected the project many times and instructed authorities to speed up development, stating that it is his dream project.
