The much-anticipated third season of Squid Game is almost here, and fans believe they've already deciphered some significant spoilers.
Earlier this week, a trailer for the popular South Korean thriller was unveiled, hinting at another savage series of games for Seong Gi-hun (portrayed by Lee Jung-jae) and his fellow contestants.
Season three will resume from a shocking cliffhanger conclusion following Gi-hun's unsuccessful rebellion which resulted in undercover player 'Oh Young-il' (Lee Byung-hun) resuming his position as the Front Man.
The surviving participants now confront another series of deadly trials with only one possible victor - unless Gi-hun and police officer Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon) can devise an alternative escape plan.
Regrettably, the cruel rules of Squid Game ensure inevitable casualties, and fans reckon they've figured out who'll be the next heartbreaking loss for the series, reports .
Sharp-eyed spectators recently took to Reddit to point out a fleeting scene featuring a distraught Jang Geum-ja (Kang Ae-shim).
"Probably the first most likely confirmed death," commented the viewer who initiated the discussion.
"This scene alone probably is a evidence that 007 will die even if it's just for mere seconds."
Player 007 refers to Geum-ja's son Park Yong-sik (Yang Dong-geun), who entered the games out of desperation when his gambling addiction left him penniless.
The mother-son duo in the series has garnered a solid fan-following throughout the show, sparking concern when they're seen apart in the latest trailer.
Viewers are now speculating that Yong-sik will meet an early demise, his fate being hotly discussed online, while Geum-ja's future is still shrouded in doubt.
An apprehensive fan commented: "Yeah everyone should have suspected this, 007's character only revolves around his relationship with his mom.
"The mom however has ties to other characters (222,120,044) so she is going to stick a little longer while 007 will die first."
Some fans seem convinced of the upcoming events: "We knew this would happen," ventured another.
"And this is MOST likely after the 4th game, aside from the fact that we know he got separated from his mom, it's also that she has her hairpin removed, which means she used it in the 4th game as defence."
One viewer expressed deep emotion over these revelations: "I feel SO bad seeing this breaks my heart."
Other theories are circulating too. Some believe the pivotal scene may occur right after Kim Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri) has her baby, as hinted by a baby's cry at the trailer's conclusion.
Tying in potential clues, a theory was pitched: "The fact she doesn't have her hairpin could be because she had to use it to defend herself, or because she used it to cut the umbilical cord.
"Also, considering the lighting, it looks like it's happening during the votes time? She could be crying to leave."
Another grim prediction suggested: "Plot twist, she's crying because the pregnant lady gave birth but the lady died, and she doesn't have her hair clip because she used the knife to cut the cord from the baby."
Is Yong-sik's fate already sealed? All our queries will be resolved in due course.
Squid Game season 3 premieres Friday, 27th June on Netflix.
