The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked all players and support staff including Indian and overseas members to head back to their respective homes. Having suspended the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) for a week, the BCCI deemed it best to send everyone back for now.

Many rounds of reports surfaced in the days leading up to the suspension of the tournament stating that many foreign players were feeling uneasy about playing in India at this time. Cricket boards from Australia, West Indies, and South Africa expressed safety concerns and regularly liaised with the BCCI regarding their players.

As Per an IPL official:

“They will be heading back home; we will help with all the logistics, but every foreign player and members of the support staff will be headed back to their respective country. Depending on what is decided in the future, a call will be taken on them returning for the league. But as of now, they will be headed back home.”

There were 71 overseas players already in the IPL and other players who were expected to join soon, like Nandre Burger and Lhuan-dre Pretorius, before being suspended. Each franchise had at least six overseas contracted players in addition to coaches, physios, analyst's and trainers employed by franchises.

We are not only speaking of players - commentators, broadcasters, and others involved in coverage are also being disbanded. JioStar, the official broadcaster for IPL 2025, released a statement confirming the same.

JioStar Commented:

“We will work with the BCCI to bring back the tournament at an appropriate time. JioStar will work closely with all stakeholders to ensure the transition is managed in a seamless manner and everyone involved in the tournament broadcast returns home safely.”
