Electric Hatchback Delivers 319 km Real-World Range Against 331 km Claimed

New Delhi, India — The MG Windsor EV has proven itself a capable electric vehicle in India’s diverse driving conditions, with a recent real-world test revealing that the hatchback delivers an impressive 319 km range on a single charge — approximately 96% of the manufacturer’s claimed 331 km.

This assessment comes ahead of widespread availability of the Windsor EV Pro variant, which features a larger battery and a higher price point. The standard Windsor EV, tested extensively across urban, rural, and highway routes, offers a compelling case for everyday EV use in India’s growing electric mobility landscape.

MG Windsor EV: Battery, Powertrain, and Range Capabilities

The MG Windsor EV is equipped with a 38 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, powering a motor that delivers 134 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. According to MG Motor, the EV is capable of a 331 km range under standard test conditions. However, real-world driving often varies significantly due to factors like terrain, traffic, and driving style — making independent range validation crucial for potential buyers.

The Pro variant, introduced at an updated ex-showroom price of ₹18.09 lakh, features a larger 52.9 kWh battery and claims a range of 449 km. However, this test focused on the standard model to better understand what the majority of current Windsor EV owners can expect.

Real-World Test Route: From Delhi Streets to Historic Landscapes

The real-world evaluation began in Delhi with a 94% state of charge and took the Windsor EV through a variety of road conditions — city congestion, rural tracks, highways, and hilly terrain. The vehicle traveled through Alwar, Bharatpur, and Fatehpur Sikri, replicating real usage patterns over a multi-day trip.

The vehicle’s trip meter registered 510 km in total, with battery usage totaling 60.8 kWh — equivalent to 160% of the 38 kWh battery capacity through two partial recharges. With an energy efficiency of 8.39 km per kWh, the real-world range was extrapolated to 319 km on a full charge.

Close Match to Claimed Range Highlights Efficiency

Achieving 96% of its claimed range places the Windsor EV among the more accurate and efficient electric vehicles in its segment. This result is particularly noteworthy given the inclusion of high-consumption conditions such as hill climbs and stop-and-go urban traffic.

MG Motor has not yet released real-world figures for the Windsor EV Pro, but if the performance of the standard model is any indicator, expectations for the Pro variant’s real-world range are high.
