Doha is set to host an electrifying evening of athletics on Friday, May 16, as it hosts the third leg of the 2025 Diamond League a crucial checkpoint on the road to next year’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The Qatari capital will welcome a world-class field featuring at least seven Olympic gold medallists and numerous world championship medallists.

This year’s event marks a historic moment for India, with its largest-ever contingent at a Diamond League meet. Four athletes will represent the country across multiple events, each hoping to make a strong impression on the global stage.

Leading the Indian challenge is reigning Olympic and World Champion Neeraj Chopra, who returns to familiar territory in Doha. Chopra triumphed at the 2023 edition with a stellar 88.67m throw and followed it up with a runner-up finish in 2024, registering 88.36m. Alongside him will be Kishore Jena, who placed ninth last year and will be aiming to climb the ranks with a stronger showing this time around.

The men’s javelin competition promises to be one of the highlights of the evening, with a deep field that includes two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada, Czech star and 2024 Doha winner Jakub Vadlejch, Germany’s Julian Weber and Max Dehning, Kenya’s Julius Yego, and Japan’s Roderick Genki Dean.

In distance events, India’s national record holder Gulveer Singh is set to make his Diamond League debut in the men’s 5000m. He’ll be looking to test his mettle against a stacked lineup of elite long-distance runners. In the women’s 3000m steeplechase, Parul Chaudhary — another national record holder — will take to the track against a strong international field, hoping to further solidify her growing reputation.
