The price of a popular beer brand has increased across a number of British supermarkets including Sainsbury's and Morrison's. A new analysis frm The Grocer has found that the price of many San Miguel supermarket offerings have gone up by quite a bit - as much as 38 percent in some cases. Sainsbury's had the biggest price increase for this product with the cost for customers shooting up from £1.99 to £2.75 since the start of the year. Meawhile, the price in Morrison's went from £2.20 a bottle to £2.50. Asda changed the size of the bottles of San Miguel they sell from the 660ml bottle to a 620ml one, and cut the price from £2.05 to £1.94.

Multipacks of the have also been affected, The Grocer says, reporting that the pre-promotional price of 4x440ml cans of San Miguel had increased by an average of 4.6% (or 26p) to £5.94.

Both Morrison's and Sainsbury's said that these were due to a number of factors while Asda did not respond to The Grocer.

A BBG spokesperson told the Grocer, "While we do not set retail prices, we are aware of recent increases driven largely by government imposed duties and new packaging taxes, which have increased production and distribution costs across the industry.

"San Miguel remains a consumer favourite, and we look forward to activating it this year with exciting marketing and trade campaigns."

San Miguel is part of the Budweiser Brewing Group (BBG), which announced that it would be responsible for distributing San Miguel from January 1, 2025 after it took over the brand.
