Indian Railways New Rule: Many times it happens that when you plan to travel with 4 people in the train, then due to heavy crowd and demand, only 2 tickets are confirmed, and the remaining 2 tickets remain on the waiting list. In such a situation, most people get confused about whether they can all travel together or not. Now the Railways have issued a very clear guideline regarding this, which will make it easier for the passengers to decide in advance what to do.
Will not be able to travel in the sleeper or AC coach with a waiting ticket
The new rule of Railways has come into effect from 1 May 2025. Under this, only those people will be allowed to travel on the train who have confirmed tickets. If a passenger's ticket is on the waiting list and is not confirmed even after the chart is made, then he cannot travel in that coach, whether it is a sleeper or any AC coach.
You may be jailed along with a fine.
What to do if the waiting list ticket is not confirmed?
In such a situation, if you want to travel with a waiting list ticket, then you have only one way, either to buy a general ticket from the station or book a general ticket from the UTS mobile app. This ticket is necessary to travel in the general compartment. If someone boards the general compartment without a general ticket, then that too will be considered a violation of rules, and TTE can take action.
Travel will be allowed if the waiting ticket becomes RAC.
However, if a waiting ticket is converted into RAC, you are allowed to travel, but you have to share your seat with another passenger. And for this also, you have to pay the full fare of the ticket.
So if you are travelling by train with family and someone in the group has a confirmed ticket and someone else does not, then wait till the chart is prepared. If the waiting ticket is not confirmed, then the rest of the passengers will have to travel with general tickets, otherwise, they may be fined.
