Mohammed Siraj's prolonged net practice with the bat has created a huge amount of noise on social media ahead of India's first training session since the five-wicket defeat against England in the first Test a couple of days ago. This follows after a lower-middle and tail-end collapse over both innings of the tourists' innings turned out to be expensive for the Shubman Gill-led team in Headingley.

Siraj, batting under the watchful eye of batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, was seen working on his defensive skills. Siraj was clicked working on ducking short balls, leaving balls outside off stump, and playing the forward defensive shot with soft hands. Siraj's intense work on batting could be a first step towards a more determined path being taken by the management.

The rest of the pacers from the opening Test, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna, were not present at the training camp. India's lower six folded for a paltry 65 runs in both innings. Head coach Gautam Gambhir has been repeating time and again that every run is crucial. It appears that the management has made up its mind to include a new system where batting would become non-negotiable for the bowlers as well.

As for the Indian bowling lineup for the second Test, there are going to be a couple of changes done. Bumrah is said to have been rested for the match in order to pace his workload. Shardul Thakur may not make it to the XI following lacklustre performances both with the bat and ball. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh may be in with a chance of being included in the mix.

The second game of the series will be hosted at Edgbaston. The game is set to commence on Wednesday, July 2, at 3:30 pm (IST). Statistically, Birmingham has not been a venue that India have enjoyed playing at. They have never won a single Test among the seven that they have played there.
