Six years after the Big Apple's first revenge porn suit under the new law, Dr. Spring Chenoa Cooper, a public health professor at City University of New York (CUNY) has won a landmark $30 million in the legal battle against her ex-partner.
The 43-year-old academician and sexologist was awarded the largest-ever payment by a jury in Manhattan on Friday in a revenge porn case in the city. “It’s been the worst six years since this all started. It means so much that the jury could validate my experiences and see how much pain and trauma this has caused me and continues to cause me,” The New York Post quoted Dr. Cooper as saying.
Comedian Ryan Broems, who had pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor of disclosure of an intimate image in 2021, circulated pictures of Dr. Cooper after their breakup six years ago. Apart from her resolve to take the suit to its logical conclusion, Dr. Cooper is a career academician and yoga instructor.
Dr. Cooper is an American-Australian researcher, fitness expert, and podcaster. She works as an Associate Professor at the CUNY School of Public Health. Throughout her career, she has advocated a healthy lifestyle and the benefits of Yoga. Now, she runs a podcast on sexual health as well.
PhD in Biobehavioral Health from Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Cooper came back to the States in 2015 after her stint as a yoga and fitness instructor in Australia. The social researcher has an interest in Health Education concerning Vaccine Preventable Diseases.
Following their breakup, Broems reportedly harassed Cooper, the lawsuit claims, even sending her daily obscene Snapchats.
