Even though these numbers may seem similar to you, these two coaches are different. S2 stands for sleeper compartment. This is one of the cheapest coaches on the train. This is because passengers travelling in this coach can travel anywhere for less money. Coaches S1, S2, S3 to S11 are sleeper coaches. In this, the ticket price is cheaper than other coaches.

You get sleeping seats in sleeper coaches. It has 6 seats on one side and 2 seats on the other side. This is how the sleeper compartment is identified. Whereas the 2S coach is completely separated from the sleeper compartment.

2S is a completely different coach from a sleeper coach. You cannot compare it with a sleeper compartment. 2S means second seating. You cannot travel while sleeping in this. This is because its seats are made like a chair.

People travelling in it can travel only sitting. This is the cheapest coach for sitting class. If you go to this compartment, you will see that it has 6 seats in a row and all the seats are facing each other, like it happens in a restaurant. In this way, you can identify 2S and S2 coaches.
