Gogglebox viewers were left distracted minutes into the show as Ellie and Izzi as a live chicken joined their duo on the sofa.

The Leeds sisters, who joined the Channel 4 hit show in 2015 as part of series 6, returned to our TV screens on Friday night as they entertained viewers with their hilarious reactions to the week's hit TV shows and films.

As the beginning credits finished, Ellie, 34 left fans watching at home in disbelief as she could be seen holding a chicken in her lap.

It appears as though the chicken is no stranger to those off-screen as Izzi didn’t seem fazed by the moment and was keen to hold the animal.

Izzi went straight in and asked: “Right so tell me, how do I hold a chicken?” Ellie went on to give a demonstration, as she explained: “So your index fingers.”

Making sure she was doing it correctly, Izzi jumped in and asked: “Are these my index fingers.” Ellie pointed out: “No it’s the two middle fingers and then the other two outer fingers go the other side of the legs.”

It was clear that Izzi was struggling to follow the instructions that were given so Ellie suggested putting the chicken on the floor so her sister could attempt to pick it up.

At first Izzi seemed confident as she said: “Ok I’ll pick her up from the floor.” But she quickly had a change of heart as she went on to say: “Actually no I can’t do it. I can’t pick up a chicken.”

Reaching down to the chicken she said: “Ok let me try again.” Despite giving it her best shot, things didn’t go to plan and it started to flap its wings, forcing Ellie to step in.”

Viewers watching at home were left baffled by the moment as they went straight to Twitter to share their reaction.

One Tweeted: “Just a random chicken in the front room, as you do #Gogglebox.” Another asked: “Why the f do they have a chicken? And are they going to eat it? #Gogglebox.”

A third joked: “Is that chicken,Izzi and Ellie's next course?#Gogglebox.”Meanwhile another added: “What on Earth are Ellie and Izzi doing with a live Chicken #Gogglebox”
