If you've been tweaking your diet this January to reduce calorie intake, navigating meals and supermarket aisles can be quite challenging.

Preparing meals from scratch is a simple way to monitor what's going into your food, but there are times when you simply lack the time or energy to whip up a meal that aligns with your health objectives.

So, if your goal is to shed a few pounds in 2025, Slimming World's frozen range at Iceland could be a convenient solution for those evenings when you're short on ideas.

I sampled some of the latest additions to the Slimming World range and discovered one meal that you wouldn't guess was designed for weight loss.

I tested six of the new dishes, and it was the priciest one that emerged as the winner.

In my opinion, the Slimming World King Prawn Bhuna 500g, £4.75 - was scrumptious.

The bhuna boasted a rich depth of flavour. I could detect the aromatic lemongrass, which wasn't too overpowering, alongside a wonderful blend of spices.

The curry contained a generous serving of prawns, which were well-seasoned, and the curry had a pleasant heat to it, perfect for a chilly evening - although my husband disagreed, stating it was spiced but lacked heat, reports .

I split a packet of microwave rice into two portions, and there was still plenty of sauce left. The curry featured large slices of red onion; these needed to be cut down a bit to enhance the dish further.

Remarkable for a slimming meal. 8/10

Slimming World Seasoned Potato Wedges - 800g, £3.25

If you're following the Slimming World diet, this could be a quick alternative. However, they are quite dry which gives them a crisp texture but they feel more aerated when bitten into.

Despite adding your own seasoning, the dryness was quite overpowering. I paired them with M&S coleslaw - not exactly Slimming World-friendly, but you could syn it. 5/10

Slimming World Sweet and Sour Chicken Noodles 400g, £3.75

Sadly, these were disappointing. The tub contained very few noodles and the sauce was both watery and gloopy.

It lacked the sweet and sour flavour, missing that delightful tang you expect from such a classic dish.

The chicken was also bland and chewy, making the whole dish rather unappetising. 1/10

Slimming World Chicken Tikka and Rice - 400g, £3.75

This dish had a pleasant spice level, although not as spicy as I had anticipated. It contained five large pieces of chicken, which is decent for the size of the tub.

The rice had a good texture, and the grains and chickpeas were nice additions.

I would have preferred more cauliflower, though, and I thought the sauce was a bit watery.

6/10

Slimming World Chicken Casserole 500g, £4.25

This dish felt like it was lacking something. And arguably, it was; potatoes.

In my casseroles, there are always potatoes, and I think this needs a few spuds to help carry the flavour of the sauce.

However, the sauce could have done with a bit more depth; it had a sweetness that wasn't balanced out by the deep, salty, savoury flavours you expect in a casserole. The dark sauce looked promising but ultimately disappointed.

The chicken was somewhat bland and chewy, but the carrots and mushrooms were pleasant. 4/10

Slimming World Brazilian Black Bean Rice Lunch Bowl 400g, £3.75

There was a pleasing sweetness to the sauce, but it may be too sweet for some. It was packed with veg and beans, but it felt filling and hearty rather than a slimming lunch.

And I think you get a good amount in all of them and I think there are some impressive flavours for a frozen, slimming product. 6/10

Slimming World Chorizo-Style Sausages and Orzo 400g, £3.75

This was a bit of a mixed experience as the orzo had a lovely texture with a little bite to it and the red pepper sauce was nice with rich sweetness. But the four small chorizo sausages were odd.

They looked lighter than the chorizo I normally eat, and they had a very chewy texture; I imagine this may be because they are a low-calorie version.

They had a mild heat, but that is all I could taste, otherwise they were flavourless, which considering they should have been the highlight of the dish it was disappointing. 5/10

You can get the full range from Iceland online and in-store, and if you love one of the meals so much, the recipe to make your own is on the packaging.
