Richards has made little secret of the astronomical ages he was paid throughout his playing days. He once how he turned down £100,000 a week at City, that he bought a house for £3million, and that he pays £200 for a haircut.

In the BBC's top salaries list, it was previously revealed that he was being paid between £200,000-£204,999 for his services. In addition, Richards is employed by Sky Sports and is also a regular on CBS' coverage, with reporting his net worth to be a whopping £37million.

Richards gives very little away about his personal life.

The ex-defender is not married and does not appear to be in a relationship with anyone at present.

Unsubstantiated reports have suggested he has dated several famous faces in the past. Back in 2008 there was speculation he was in a relationship with former actress . She was previously engaged to ex-Aston Villa star Scott Sinclair, who played alongside Richards at Villa Park in the 2015/16 season. Speaking with Gary and Alan Shearer on The Rest is Football podcast, he opened up on how his seven-year-old son has an eye for goal, while revealing how he balances his hectic work life with raising a child.

"He's seven. He's started playing and he scored eight goals the other day just for a local team. He's actually very good," Richards said.

"The problem with me is I don't get to see him play all the time because I work Saturdays and the games are Saturday mornings. If I've got to get to a , I can only watch the first half."

Richards then lifted the lid on his parenting style, adding: "I just put my hood up on the sideline. I don't shout anything, encourage anything.

I just let him breathe. Let him enjoy the game. That's what I do."
