An Air India Express pilot passed away due to a cardiac arrest shortly after landing a flight at India’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on April 9.

The pilot, 28, identified as Armaan, reported feeling unwell shortly after landing and subsequently collapsed, according to the Hindustan Herald.

Emergency medical assistance was provided, and he was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“We deeply regret the loss of a valued colleague due to a medical condition,” an Air India Express spokesperson said on April 10, as reported by The Times of India. “Our thoughts are with the family during this time of profound grief.”

The incident follows recent discussions around pilot fatigue and working conditions.

In February, India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) proposed new regulations to limit flight hours and increase rest periods for pilots. Under these guidelines, effective from July 1, pilots’ mandatory weekly rest would rise from 36 to 48 hours to help minimize fatigue- incidents.
