Los Angeles In an update, director Ryan Coogler said that he has “spoken to the great Gillian Anderson” about his future relaunch of The X Files, which he said is “immediately next” for him.
She is amazing. “I’m crossing my fingers,” Coogler said on “Last Podcast on the Left.”
“I’m eager to go back to it since I’ve been thrilled about it for a while. If we do our duties properly, some of those instances will be really frightening.
“Bro, we’re going to try to make something really great, and be something for the real X Files fans, and maybe find some new ones,” he said.
After learning about Coogler’s reworking, Anderson referred to the director as “a bit of a genius” and said that she “cannot think of a better way around for a reboot to happen.”
“Whether or not I am involved in it is a whole other thing,” she said. I’m not refusing. He seems like a pretty great guy, and if he did it, I’m sure it would be extremely good. Additionally, I could stop by for a quick visit.
Anderson and David Duchovny played FBI Special Agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder, who look into incidents of paranormal activity, in the first nine seasons of The X Files, which lasted from 1993 to 2002.
A two-season revival of the program ran from 2016 to 2018, and there were also film adaptations, The X Files and The X Files: I Want to Believe.
In light of the Black Panther director’s five-year exclusive contract with Disney Television under his Proximity Media imprint, original series creator Chris Carter said last year that Coogler is “going to remount The X Files with a diverse cast.”
Carter said on the On the Coast podcast, “He has a lot of work ahead of him because we covered a lot of ground.”
