New Delhi: It has been 25 years since the launch of Ariel Atom, since which time it has been echoing around the tracks of the UK and Europe. After this much success, Ariel have launched their most powerful variant to date of their iconic Atom. Ahead of the year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, Ariel debuted the Atom 4RR.
The 4RR comes with a powerful turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine taken from the Honda Civic Type R and has many more aerodynamic enhancements to make the performance better on the track. With upgrades internally and optimized oil and fuel systems, it can produce 525 bhp and 550 Nm of torque.
This makes it 125 bhp more powerful than the normal Atom 4R and comes with 25 bhp more than the Atom V8. With this much extra output, the 4RR will be quicker to 100 kph than most of its cousins. For comparison, the Atom 4R reaches 100 kph in 2.7 seconds and has a top speed of 273 kph. For now, Ariel have withheld the figures of the new 4RR.
It has a huge Formula One-like splitter at the front end of the car, while a similarly sized wing comes from the rear. Also, there are two hulking intakes right behind the seats for better airflow to the engine. Ariel Atom 4RR will be limited to just 25 examples, and the pricing is also unknown. Ariel says that the powerful new engine and equipments on board make it for those who are “serious track drivers”
