IMD India Weather Forecast Today Live News Updates: A total of 74 people have died in Himachal Pradesh over the last two weeks after the early arrival of monsoon wreaked havoc in the state, news agency ANI reported quoting the official data released by the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC). Heavy rains and thunderstorms triggered cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides in Himachal over the past couple weeks, with dozens dead and 31 still missing due to rain- incidents. The Met office has issued a “red” alert for very heavy to extremely heavy rains at isolated places in Kangra, Sirmaur and Mandi districts and an “orange” alert for heavy to very heavy showers at isolated places over Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Solan, Shimla and Kullu districts for the weekend.

Light rain likely in Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain on Sunday in Delhi, with the maximum temperature expected to settle around 33 degrees Celsius. The weather conditions will be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, as per the forecast. The minimum temperature is likely to be around 29 degrees Celsius.

Early onset of monsoon in India: Monsoon hit northern India in the last week of June this year, as opposed to its expected arrival around July 8. Over the last two weeks, heavy rains have been recorded in northern states such as Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. Isolated rains were observed in Kashmir, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and northeastern regions in the past few days, as per the weather department.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) Sunday told news agency ANI that the efforts are underway to restore services “swiftly” after heavy monsoon showers in Himachal Pradesh triggered landslides and infrastructure damage, disrupting road connectivity and essential services across many districts.

“The heavy monsoon showers have triggered landslides, waterlogging, and infrastructure damage, disrupting road connectivity and essential services across multiple districts,” it said.

“Efforts are underway to restore services swiftly, and field teams are on alert in highly affected regions such as Mandi and Kullu.”

In districts such as Shimla, Solan, and Lahaul and Spiti, the report showed minimal or no disruptions. However, SDMA cautioned that continuing rains could aggravate the situation in coming days.

The public has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in landslide-prone zones. Restoration efforts are ongoing with the Public Works, Electricity, and Jal Shakti departments mobilized for repairs, news agency ANI reported.
