Ruben Amorim has revealed that he still has the backing of Sir Jim Ratcliffe at Manchester United. The Portuguese tactician spoke at a press conference on Friday afternoon, looking ahead to the Red Devils' clash with Liverpool.

During which, he said of his interactions with Ratcliffe: "He tells me all the time, sometimes with a message after the games but you know, I know and Jim knows that football is not like that. The most important thing is the next game.

"You cannot control the next day in football so I know that but it is really good to hear that also because of the noise. Omar [Berrada] and Jason [Wilcox] tell me that all the time."

He added: "First of all I can feel it, it is not just that thing that people talk [about]. I feel the support every day.

"Sometimes the pressure I put on myself and the team is often so much bigger than them. I know it is going to take a while but I don't want to think like that, I said that last year.

"It is really good to hear that, I think it helps our fans understand that the leadership knows it will take a while but, at the same moment, I don't like that because it will give a feeling like we have time to work things out.

"So I don't want that feeling here in our club. It is good to feel the support but we need to show people, at a big club, we are ready to win games."

It comes as Amorim's future at United has been cast into speculation almost from the moment he arrived at Old Trafford. The 40-year-old took the reins of the club in the wake of Erik ten Hag's dismissal last November, and has failed to deliver consistent results.

United suffered a lacklustre 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season, while also missing out on the Europa League title courtesy of a 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the competition's final. The current campaign also hasn't got off to the best start.

At the time of writing, United sit 10th in the Premier League standings, with three wins, three losses and a draw from their opening seven games. However, the Red Devils head into Sunday's clash with Liverpool with momentum on their opponents.

United managed a 2-0 win over a newly-promoted Sunderland ahead of the international break, thanks to goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko, and will hope to pick up where they left off against the reigning Premier League champions this weekend.

Arne Slot's Reds, meanwhile, currently sit a point behind Arsenal in second-place in the league, as a result of suffering back-to-back losses to Crystal Palace and Chelsea. They also saw a 1-0 loss at the hands of Galatasaray in the Champions League in the interim.
