Byju’s former India chief executive Mrinal Mohit has launched Uprio, an AI-based edtech platform that offers personalised online tuition aligned with school curricula.

The Bengaluru-based startup conducts classes in small batches of up to six students and is currently associated with around 57 schools in Bengaluru and Delhi, with plans to expand to 100 schools, according to its website.

“India’s current approach to school learning is caught in a frustrating loop. Large classrooms make learning gaps inevitable, and tuitions fail to fix them as they aren’t aligned with schoolwork,” Mohit said in a LinkedIn post on Saturday. Uprio’s model, he added, uses AI to build an after-school supplement that complements school learning rather than creating a parallel track.

Operating on a monthly subscription model, the startup focuses on personalised learning for students and schools, and is witnessing strong subscription renewals from its initial batches.

Mohit, a long-time aide of Byju Raveendran, left Byju’s in 2023 after nearly a decade. His new venture comes as AI-led tutoring startups attract renewed investor interest post Byju’s collapse. In recent months, Arivihan raised $4.17 million from Prosus and Accel, while Stimuler AI secured $3.7 million from Lightspeed and others.
