Kozhikode: A youth who had gone to Australia for higher studies died in a road accident just two days after returning to his hometown. The incident occurred at Karuvannur near Nadubannur in Kozhikode district, Kerala. The deceased has been identified as Ashwin Raj, 22, a native of Perambra.
The accident took place around 8:30 am on Wednesday, February 11, near the Karuvannur petrol pump. Terrifying footage of the incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera. Ashwin, the son of retired teacher Rajan and teacher Binith from Perambra, was studying in Australia and had arrived home only two days prior.
The mishap occurred when a scooter rider on the road suddenly attempted to take a turn. Ashwin, who was riding his bike behind the scooter, tried to control his vehicle but slipped and fell onto the road. At that moment, a speeding car coming from the opposite direction ran over him. Although he was rushed to a private medical college hospital in Modakkallur with serious injuries, he passed away without responding to treatment.
CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, with netizens expressing outrage over the alleged negligence of the scooter rider. Perambra police arrived at the spot, conducted an inspection, and registered a case. The body has been shifted to Kozhikode Medical College for a post-mortem examination. The tragedy has left the family, who were celebrating their son's return from abroad, in deep shock. Ashwin is survived by his parents and brother, Abhay Raj.
