The tide turned dramatically in India’s favor during the 6th over of the Netherlands' chase in the T20 World Cup 2026 match when Varun Chakaravarthy unleashed a delivery that sent shockwaves through the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Facing the formidable Max O’Dowd, who had just broken free with a six off Washington Sundar, Chakravarthy threw a sneaky, skidding googly that completely bewildered the batter. O’Dowd, trying to launch a powerful cross-batted swing into the leg side, completely misjudged both the length and the trajectory.
The ball zipped back in sharply, slipped through the gap between bat and pad, and smashed into the leg stump, sending it flying in a stunning display. The sight of the timber flying was just the breakthrough India needed, sending O’Dowd back to the pavilion at 20 and disrupting a solid opening partnership. Chakravarthy’s immediate impact in his first over, giving away just three runs and claiming a wicket, once again highlighted why he’s considered India’s “X-factor” spinner as they head into the Super 8s.

India Continue Winning Run, Dube and Varun Lead the Way
The Indian cricket team has been on a roll, wrapping up the league stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 without a single loss. They set a daunting target of 193/6, with contributions coming from all sides.
Shivam Dube truly stole the show, blasting an impressive 66 off just 31 balls, which featured four fours and six sixes, earning him the Player of the Match award. Tilak Varma added a solid 31 runs, while Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with 34. Hardik Pandya’s late surge of 30 runs really helped push India to a challenging total.
On the other hand, the Netherlands fought hard but struggled to find their rhythm. Max O’Dowd and Michael Levitt couldn’t quite get going, although Bas de Leede and Colin Ackermann formed a promising partnership that kept their hopes alive.
The tide turned, however, thanks to Varun Chakaravarthy’s outstanding bowling display. He took 3 wickets for just 14 runs in three overs, proving to be a game-changer during the middle overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Shivam Dube also played their part with crucial wickets. There were a few missed chances, including a collision between Suryakumar and Rinku Singh that raised some eyebrows, but thankfully, no serious injuries occurred as India clinched a 17-run victory.
