Bank Tips: In today's times, incidents of bank fraud and theft can happen to anyone at any moment; therefore, remaining vigilant is crucial. If such an incident occurs while you are inside a bank, take the following steps.
Bank Tips: Nowadays, there is no telling when or to whom fraud might happen. Imagine if your money were stolen or you fell victim to some form of fraud while inside a bank—there is no need to panic. In such a situation, taking the right steps—and doing so at the right time—is absolutely essential. This is because prompt action taken at the appropriate moment can minimize your financial loss and help resolve the case more quickly.
1. Inform the Bank Immediately
As soon as you discover that a theft or fraud has occurred, your first step should be to notify the Bank Manager or the bank's Security Officer. Additionally, submit your complaint in writing and ensure you obtain an acknowledgment receipt for it.
2. Request CCTV Footage
It is common knowledge that banks are equipped with CCTV cameras throughout their premises. Therefore, approach the Bank Manager immediately and request to view the CCTV footage corresponding to the time of the incident. You should also secure a copy of this footage for your own records, as it may prove useful during the subsequent police investigation.
3. File an FIR with the Police
Following this, without wasting any time, visit a nearby police station and file a First Information Report (FIR). Provide complete details in the FIR, such as:
First, state exactly when the incident took place.
Specify the exact amount of money that was stolen from you.
Furthermore, if you have any suspicions regarding a specific individual, provide those details to the police as well.
4. Block Your Cards and Net Banking
Keep in mind that if the fraud involves your bank card or account, you must immediately:
Call the bank's toll-free helpline number and request to have your card blocked.
Additionally, request the suspension of your mobile banking and internet banking services.
5. File a Complaint with the Banking Ombudsman
An important point to note is that if the bank fails to take appropriate action regarding your complaint, you have the option to file an online complaint with the RBI's Banking Ombudsman.

Always keep the receipt for money withdrawn from the bank safe.
Do not show your money or bank details to any stranger.
Seek assistance only from authorized bank employees.

If you fall victim to digital fraud, immediately call 1930 or file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in.
