A major UK supermarket has launched a new premium meal deal in its stores nationwide - making it cheaper than its high street rivals. Asda will be introducing the deal of a main, drink and snack for £5 in its supermarkets and Express shops from Monday (May 18).

The popular high street supermarket is set to shake up the lunchtime market with the launch of its new "Exceptional" meal deal. The £5 offer gives customers access to a selection of 17 premium mains, ranging from deliinspired sandwiches and wraps to fresh salads, alongside Yo Sushi poke bowls and rolls. Asda says the pricing has been deliberately pitched below comparable premium deals offered by its major rivals.

Tesco's Finest meal deal currently costs £5.50 for Clubcard holders and £6 without, while Sainsbury's charges a flat £5.50. Coop's premium option is priced at £5.50 for members and £6 for nonmembers, reports The Grocer.

Asda hopes the lower price point, combined with a broader range of higherquality options, will attract shoppers looking for better value during the lunchtime rush.

It says its new Exceptional lunchtime range has been created to "deliver maximum flavour," combining what it describes as artisan, deliinspired recipes with generous portions and standout ingredients.

The expanded lineup includes items such as an Exceptional Prosciutto Cotto and Milano Salami Focaccia, a "bold" Beef Birria Wrap and a premium Prawn Cocktail sandwich.

Shoppers will also find an Exceptional Pesto & Mozzarella Pasta Salad and a Chicken Caesar ShakeASalad, alongside two new handfinished sushi Dragon Rolls in Chicken Katsu and Spicy Prawn varieties.

The additions mark the latest development in Asda's premium Exceptional tier, which first launched in September 2024 and has since grown to cover a wide range of higherend food options.
