Read, Digital Desk : To mark the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, the Prime Minister’s Museum and Library (PMML) has opened a special exhibition on his life and legacy to the public. The exhibition will run until June 30 at the Prime Minister’s Museum in Teen Murti Bhavan.
On Saturday, Nripendra Mishra, Chairman of the Executive Council of PMML, inaugurated the exhibition “A Statesman’s Journey: P.V. Narasimha Rao.” The exhibition showcases a collection of rare photographs, government documents, speeches, letters and archival material.
Rao was born on June 28, 1921, in Karimnagar district of the then Hyderabad state. He died on December 23, 2004. Sunday marked his 105th birth anniversary. This exhibition traces how Rao began his public life as a student leader during the anti-Nizam Vande Mataram movement and emerged as a key participant in India’s freedom struggle.
For several decades, he served the country in several key roles, including as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Minister of External Affairs, Home Affairs, and Defense. He served as Prime Minister from June 21, 1991, to May 16, 1996, and was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2024 in recognition of his exceptional services to the nation.
The exhibition highlights Rao’s role in steering India through a period of severe economic challenges and initiating reforms for liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation, which transformed the country’s economic landscape.
The exhibition also provides a glimpse into Rao’s multifaceted personality as a scholar, freedom fighter, reformer and visionary leader who helped redefine India’s place in the global order.
“Through this exhibition, the Prime Minister’s Museum aims to celebrate the enduring legacy of the statesman who is often considered the architect of modern and globalised India, and also to raise awareness about his contributions among students, researchers and the general public,” PMML said in a statement.
