Mumbai Rains: The country’s financial capital Mumbai is in the grip of continuous heavy rains. It seems as if the heavy rain has put a brake on the pace of the city. Road traffic has been affected due to waterlogging in many areas, while rail and air services are also being affected extensively.
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain for Mumbai, Pune and surrounding areas. The administration is appealing to people to avoid unnecessary travel and keep an eye on weather updates.
The maximum impact of continuous bad weather was seen at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. By morning, 17 flights had to be cancelled, while more than 200 flights were delayed from their scheduled time.
There were difficulties in landing and takeoff of planes due to waterlogging around the runway, strong winds and low visibility. Air traffic control had to operate flights according to the weather, due to which the schedules of many flights were affected.
Due to delay and cancellation of flights, a huge crowd of passengers was seen at the airport terminals. Many passengers had to wait for hours, while some had to make new plans for their journey.
However, the airport administration and ground staff of various airlines remained busy helping the passengers. Information about alternative flights, ticket re-scheduling and other necessary facilities were provided to the affected passengers, so that they face minimum inconvenience.
In view of the heavy rains, many major airlines have issued advisories for their passengers. IndiGo has appealed to the passengers to check the status of their flight on the airline’s website or mobile app before leaving home.
Also, passengers have been advised to take extra time to reach the airport compared to normal days, because there is a situation of traffic jams and waterlogging on many major roads of the city.
Akasa Air and SpiceJet have also warned passengers that the impact of bad weather is not limited to Mumbai only. Due to this, connecting flights of other cities may also be affected.
The effect of rain is not limited to the airport only. Heavy waterlogging was seen on many major roads of Mumbai, especially the Western Express Highway and the routes connecting the airport. Due to this, the speed of vehicles slowed down considerably and long traffic jams occurred at many places.
In such circumstances, reaching the airport on time also became a big challenge for the passengers. The administration is continuously doing drainage work, but due to continuous rains it is taking time for the situation to become normal.
The Mumbai airport administration has appealed to passengers to leave home at least one to two hours before their scheduled flight, so that the check-in process can be completed on time despite traffic and weather constraints.
Apart from this, passengers have also been advised to keep a constant eye on the updates issued by the airline, so that they can get timely information about any changes in the flight.
The continuous torrential rains in Mumbai have badly affected the normal functioning of the city. The impact of the weather is clearly visible on road, rail and air transport.
Especially air passengers are facing a lot of trouble due to delays and cancellations of flights. The Meteorological Department has still predicted heavy rains, so the best option for passengers would be to remain alert, start traveling early and check the status of their flights regularly.
