The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU)—an umbrella body representing bank employees and officers across the country—has decided to call a nationwide bank strike on September 11. The unions state that the government and bank management have failed to make decisions regarding several of their demands. These include the implementation of a five-day banking week, modifications to the Performance-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, and pension-related issues.

Services Likely to be Affected for Four Days

If the strike takes place on September 11, banking services in several states could be disrupted for approximately four days. September 11 falls on a Friday; banks will remain closed on the following Saturday (September 12) and Sunday (September 13). Additionally, some states observe a holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14. As a result, banks are likely to remain closed for four consecutive days.

Three-Day Strike Also Planned for September

Furthermore, the UFBU has warned of a subsequent three-day strike starting September 28. The unions have stated that if the government and bank management do not address their demands, they will proceed with an indefinite strike starting October 26.
