Sonu Sood has expressed grief over the building collapse in Delhi that left seven people dead, calling on the government to ensure safer housing for students.

Taking to X on Tuesday, the 53-year-old wrote, “Every year, lakhs of students leave their homes to chase a dream in another city. But are we giving them a safe place to live? In Delhi, around 7 lakh students are enrolled, while hostel capacity is barely 30,000, just 1 in 31 gets a hostel.”

The Dabangg actor suggested a possible fix: “Why not identify vacant government land around universities and allow/build safe, affordable student hostels there? Universities could also be given additional building permissions to create more on-campus accommodation.”

The Fateh actor added, “Students get safety. Parents get peace of mind. Universities and governments generate revenue. And, most importantly, we protect lives. Sometimes, a small change in policy can protect someone’s biggest dream.”

The tragedy occurred when a five-storey boys’ PG accommodation called “Hostel Daze,” located in Delhi’s Satya Niketan near Delhi University’s South Campus, collapsed on Sunday afternoon around 1:30 pm.

Fire services were alerted within minutes, with rescue teams reaching the site by 1:50 pm.

The building, situated in a congested lane in the RK Puram/Moti Bagh area, was reportedly being used as a student hostel with around 15 rooms, each housing two to three students.

As of Tuesday morning, the death toll had risen to seven, with search and rescue operations still underway amid heavy debris.
