Rajkot: Three men drowned while immersing a Ganpati idol in a check dam near Khodiyar temple on the Kuwadva–Wankaner Road under the limits of Kuvadva Road police station on Wednesday.




The deceased were identified as Dhiru Chauhan (60), Narendra Chauhan (30) and Nayan Chauhan (23). All three are from the same family but their relations are still not known as the police could not record the statements of family members who were in deep shock.




Fire officer Shahbaz Khan Yusufzai said a team launched a search operation in water estimated to be 20 to 22 foot deep. The three men were located and brought out after about 10 to 12 minutes.




An accidental death report has been registered at the Airport police station .




The Rajkot city police commissioner had issued a notification designating around six locations for Ganpati idol immersion to prevent untoward incidents. However, people continue to immerse idols at unauthorised locations, leading to recurring drowning incidents in deep water.
