Gurgaon: The city saw a brief spell of rain on Saturday evening, with drizzle reported in parts of the city around 6 pm after a mostly cloudy day. The shower was patchy and most areas stayed dry, but the change in weather brought some relief from the recent warmth.
The maximum temperature at NorthCap University dropped to 29.8 degrees Celsius, down from 33.9 degrees Celsius on Friday. The other two monitoring stations did not record maximum temperature readings on Saturday.
Night temperatures also dropped across three stations. Gurgaon KVK recorded a low of 21.9 degrees Celsius, down from 23.3 degrees Celsius a day earlier. At NorthCap University, the minimum fell from 24.3°C to 22.6°C, while Gurgaon AWS recorded 20.5°C against 22°C on Friday.
The city stayed partly cloudy for much of the day, with the sun breaking through around 3 pm before clouds returned and drizzle followed in the evening.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain and thunderstorms in Haryana on Sunday as a depression over central India moves towards southeast Uttar Pradesh and gradually weakens. Its movement is expected to influence weather over parts of north India over the next couple of days.
“Light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places in the state on Sunday, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated places,” the IMD said.
Heavy rain along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at isolated places has been forecast in isolated areas of Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Sonipat and Panipat.
However, the weather activity is expected to weaken from Monday.
For Gurgaon, the maximum temperature is likely to remain around 31-32 degrees Celsius over the next two days, while the minimum temperature is expected to stay between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius. The mercury is expected to climb from Tuesday, with the maximum likely to reach 35 degrees Celsius.
