Patrick Mahomes ’ father, Pat Mahomes Sr., will be able to watch his son take the field at Arrowhead Stadium , but there is a catch. The former MLB pitcher has reportedly been granted permission to travel to Kansas City to attend Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs home games while he remains on probation. However, his trips come with a strict condition that makes his plans to watch his son play anything but routine.

Patrick Mahomes’ dad faces unusual condition to watch son at ArrowheadMahomes Sr. has agreed to undergo urine testing before and after his trips when requested by his probation officer. The unusual arrangement stems from his ongoing probation following his DWI case. While the court has allowed him to make the trip to Kansas City for Chiefs home games, his request to travel to certain road games was not granted.

For Mahomes Sr., the ruling means he can still be in the stands at Arrowhead to support his son during the Chiefs’ home games. That permission is significant because his probation has placed restrictions on his ability to travel. Rather than having unrestricted access to Chiefs games, his travel plans remain subject to the conditions imposed by the court.

The testing requirement adds another layer to what would ordinarily be a simple trip to watch his son play football. Mahomes Sr. has reportedly completed 160 hours of community service and an outpatient alcohol-treatment program as part of his probation. His probation officer has also reported no issues with his alcohol-monitoring device or drug and alcohol testing.

Pat Mahomes Sr. can watch Patrick at Arrowhead, but road games are differentThe court's decision does not give Mahomes Sr. unrestricted freedom to follow the Chiefs around the country. He reportedly sought permission to travel to Kansas City, Las Vegas and Cincinnati to attend games. While Kansas City was approved, the requests involving the road trips were not.

That leaves Arrowhead as the place where Mahomes Sr. can continue one of his most familiar roles: watching his son compete in front of the Chiefs’ home crowd. For Patrick Mahomes, having his father in the stands is nothing new. But this time, getting to Arrowhead requires his dad to follow a very different set of rules.

And that unusual condition could make every Chiefs home game a little more significant for the Mahomes family.

Why Pat Mahomes Sr. is still on probationMahomes Sr.’s current restrictions date back to his DWI case. He was arrested in Texas in February 2024 on a DWI charge and later pleaded guilty to a third-or-more DWI offense. He was sentenced to five years of probation.

His legal troubles continued in 2026 when he was arrested over an alleged probation violation, leading to additional scrutiny of his compliance with the terms of his probation. Despite that history, his recent progress appears to have allowed him some additional flexibility, including permission to travel to Kansas City for his son’s home games.
