Hyderabad: A 56-year-old businessman was crushed to death when a van carrying a load of steel pipes overturned and fell on his scooter while taking a U-turn at Balanagar on Thursday afternoon. Police booked a case of culpable homicide against the erring van driver and others. The deceased was identified as Prakash Pawar from Shapur .
Around 3.30 pm, Prakash was travelling from Shapur to his gold smelting shop in Ameerpet . Under the Balanagar flyover, a goods carrier with a load of steel pipes took a U-turn ahead of him. “After taking the U-turn, due to the heavy load, the goods van turned turtle and steel pipes fell on the scooter which was to the left of the van. The victim who was riding the two-wheeler was crushed under the load of steel pipes and died on the spot,” Balanagar ACP P Naresh Reddy said.
Alerted by the locals, Balanagar law and order and the traffic police reached the spot. The body was removed and shifted to the morgue in an ambulance. Using a crane, the traffic police removed the steel rods and the vehicle was shifted to the police station. Balanagar traffic police said that due to adequate road width, there was no significant traffic problem at the spot.
“We have booked a case under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the BNS against the van driver, owner and the person who had booked the load for causing death of a person by overloading the vehicle,” Kukatpally additional DCP M Sudarshan said. The accused driver has been taken into custody.
