MUMBAI: Three scooter-borne men allegedly chased a 23-year-old chartered accountancy student and his two friends through Bandra (West), pelted their car with stones and damaged it after a near-collision on Monday night. One of the occupants sustained a minor injury in the road-rage incident.
Bandra resident Yuvraj Bhandari, who was driving the car, and his friends Tanishq Sawant and Aarav Lasrado, all 23, had questioned the trio after their scooter allegedly approached the car from the wrong direction at a junction. The men allegedly abused and threatened them before fleeing.
Bandra police registered an FIR on Tuesday and are examining CCTV footage to identify the accused.
"We are trying to enhance the CCTV images for a clearer view. The trio took narrow lanes to escape, and the scooter had no visible registration number, delaying efforts to trace them. Our team is examining footage to track their escape route," a Bandra police officer said.
Bhandari was driving his uncle Hitendra Bhandari's Toyota Glanza from Dr Ambedkar Road towards Carter Road around 8.45pm when the incident occurred.
"The three men riding a scooter in the wrong direction nearly collided head-on with our car at the Peri Road-Turner Road junction. When we questioned them, they allegedly got angry and chased us towards Khar Danda via Carter Road," Bhandari told TOI.
The trio allegedly pelted the car with stones and tried to obstruct it as Bhandari drove through narrow lanes to escape. When the car later stopped at a traffic signal at the same junction, the men allegedly smashed its rear-right window and damaged the rear-right door and indicator with stones.
Sawant suffered a minor injury to a finger on his right hand from broken glass and stones. The damage to the car was estimated at Rs 1 lakh.
The suspects were described as slender and around 20 years old. One was wearing a white shirt and the other two black shirts.
The trio has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing hurt, wrongful restraint, mischief causing property damage, insult, criminal intimidation and common intention.
