Chandigarh, 2 November 2026: Before the assembly elections to be held in Punjab in the year 2027, it seems that the ruling party Aam Aadmi Party is in trouble. Within a short period of just 24 hours after the party revealed its first list of candidates, three AAP MLAs have resigned. After the resignation of two MLAs on Sunday, MLA from Amritsar North (North) seat and former IPS officer Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh has also resigned from his MLA post. He has sent his resignation letter to the Speaker of the Assembly. Earlier, he was also suspended from the party due to anti-party activities.

Addressing the people of Amritsar on social media, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh had said, “I have resigned from my membership of the Punjab Legislative Assembly. I will remain grateful to you till my last breath for the love and respect you have given me.” He had added that as an MLA he has accomplished 90 percent of his work targets.

He further said, “With your support and God's blessings, we will have to rise above the narrow streets and ribbon-cutting politics and make joint efforts to make Punjab, which is entangled in drugs, corruption, gangsterism and corruption, a progressive and beautiful state again.” The former IPS officer had said that he has destroyed the 'mother-father' culture from politics and has worked considering the public as a source of inspiration. In the House, he strongly raised many local issues like water, sewage, circuit house, company garden, dirty drain and Bargadi desecration. In the future, they will work together with the public to formulate the future strategy and their main objective will remain 'Punjab First'.

  • Earlier these two MLAs had also torn apart

Just a day before Kunwar Vijay Pratap's resignation, two other AAP MLAs had also resigned from the primary membership of the party. Among those who left the party on Sunday were Harmeet Singh Pathan Majra from Sanaur assembly seat and Chetan Singh Jodamajra, MLA from Patiala's Samana constituency. Both these leaders had already been suspended by the party for anti-party activities, after which they took this step.

Amidst the upcoming assembly elections, this is being considered as a big shock for Aam Aadmi Party, due to which there has been a huge upheaval in the politics of Punjab. Now the party is likely to demand cancellation of membership of these MLAs before the Assembly Speaker.
