Mexico City: Italy's Kimi Antonelli may have finished third in the Mexico Grand Prix but he created a new history by winning the Formula One Championship at the age of only 20. The Mercedes driver finished third behind Mexican Grand Prix winners Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, but that was enough to clinch the championship. After finishing the race he jumped with joy.
“I'm just trying to understand what happened,” Antonelli said. When you work so hard and finally achieve it, it is really very special.'' Before Antonelli, the record for becoming the youngest champion was in the name of Sebastian Vettel who achieved this feat in 2010 at the age of 23. Antonelli was accompanied by his parents and younger sister.
“The tide of emotions is rising,” he said. To witness this moment with my family is something I will always remember.'' Antonelli has a total of 380 points in the championship standings and has thus clinched the championship with four races remaining. In the table, Verstappen is second with 261 points and Hamilton is third with 259 points. Even if one of these two players wins the remaining four races, he will not be able to overtake Antonelli.
