Gul Panag is preparing to take a more organised approach to her fitness routine as she gets closer to turning 48. The actress, who has remained committed to exercise for more than 30 years, has decided to bring professional guidance into a routine she has largely managed herself. Sharing the update on Instagram, Panag explained that years of independent training have helped her stay active, but she now wants to understand what she might achieve with a more carefully planned programme. Her decision is not centred on a dramatic physical makeover. Instead, she is interested in improving her fitness through expert direction, consistent monitoring and a better understanding of what her body needs at this stage of life.
Panag has spent much of her adult life exercising and maintaining an active lifestyle. However, she believes that long experience does not necessarily mean a person is making the most of every training opportunity. Reflecting on her journey, she wrote, “I’ve been training for over three decades. Mostly on my own. And I think it shows. A little.”
Her observation points to a distinction she has begun considering more closely: staying fit and reaching one’s individual fitness potential are not always the same thing. A routine developed through years of personal experience can be effective, but it may also leave room for improvements that are difficult to identify without professional assessment.
The actress appears keen to find out whether changes in the way she trains, eats and recovers could help her make further progress. Rather than assuming that more exercise is automatically better, she wants a programme that considers different aspects of physical health together.
Panag has not been entirely without professional input in the past. She acknowledged receiving useful advice from nutritionist Pooja Makhija and fitness professionals Deepa Aswani and Shalvi Sharma. Their guidance has contributed to her understanding of health and exercise over the years.
However, she now feels that occasional advice may not be enough to address all the areas she wants to improve. In her Instagram post, she suggested that what had been missing was clearer direction and some adjustments to her existing approach.
“Perhaps what I’ve been missing is the direction. And some tweaking,” she shared.
That thinking has led her to seek a more comprehensive plan rather than relying only on individual recommendations. A structured programme can bring different elements of fitness into a coordinated routine, helping a person understand how training, nutrition and recovery influence one another.
As part of this new approach, Panag has brought trainer Shuru on board. The arrangement will involve professional guidance, regular check-ins and a more organised training schedule. The focus will extend beyond workouts to include nutrition, stretching, recovery and gradual progression.
Accountability is another important part of the plan. Having someone monitor progress and provide feedback can help identify whether a routine is working as intended or needs adjustment. It can also make it easier to maintain consistency, particularly when fitness goals require long-term commitment rather than short bursts of intense activity.
Panag’s emphasis on these connected areas suggests that she is looking at fitness as a broader process. Strength training alone is not the entire picture; recovery and mobility also matter when building a sustainable routine.
The actress has made it clear that this decision should not be viewed as a conventional transformation challenge. She is not presenting the programme as an attempt to change her appearance within a fixed period. Instead, she wants to explore how much progress may be possible when years of personal training are supported by a more structured system.
Her description of the effort as an “experiment in midlife muscle” captures the spirit of the project. It reflects curiosity about strength, physical capability and the possibilities of continuing to improve with age.
As she approaches 48, Panag’s decision offers a practical perspective on long-term fitness: experience can provide a strong foundation, but fresh guidance may help refine the process. Her next phase will be about learning, making adjustments and finding out what a more closely supervised routine can achieve.
