MUMBAI: The food and drug administration (FDA) has suspended public-private-partnership (PPP) blood bank licence at Cooper Hospital for two days starting today.
The blood bank is run by Samarprit Bahuddeshiya Sevabhavi Vikas Sanstha and the services can only resume from midnight November 7.
Hospital authorities said for the next two-three days they will be relying on blood bank at Trauma Hospital in Jogeshwari.
Speaking to TOI, FDA officials said the notice was served to them 90-days prior. One of the contraventions found was lack of proper documentation.
Last month, FDA had taken action against JJ Hospital and Nair Hospital blood banks and deans had to involve FDA minister Narhari Zirwal to secure a stay.
The action was after the two hospitals were participants in the camp by a private group where watches had been gifted to donors at a blood donation drive organised in April on the occasion of a corporate bigwig’s birthday.
