More than 15,000 people struggled to access the sharing website on Monday afternoon, with multiple reports of a "server error" message.


According to outage tracking site Downdetector, Reddit said it was investigating elevated errors across its website and app just before 5pm GMT. Over 112,400 users reported that the platform was down earlier this afternoon, but tens of thousands were still struggling to access the by early evening. The majority of users said they were having issues with the (66%) whilst 30% were struggling to use the website and 5% reported server connection issues. One disgruntled user said: "Was replying to a comment a moment ago on Reddit when suddenly a message popped up saying 'server error' and now my notifications are all gone, Reddit wall is completely empty, can't view any posts what so ever & all communities apparently do not exist. What is going on?"



Shortly before 5pm, Reddit said: "We are currently investigating elevated errors across reddit.com and the ." The popular forum website then said the issue had been identified and began implementing a fix before monitoring the results.

Disappointed users rushed over to X to seek an explanation. One wrote: "Why is Reddit down? Im irritated." Another said: "Not Reddit being down. How are we supposed to b*tch and talk sh*t anonymously." A third user added: "Reddit is down, what else is there to do anymore?" One person wrote: "I don't even open Reddit often, but the moment I do for some searching, it's suddenly server down bruh." Alongside their tweets, several users shared a screenshot of the Reddit app and website showing nothing but a blank screen and error message reading: "Server Error. We have encountered an error. Please try again later."


At 5:21pm GMT, Reddit said: "This incident has been resolved." By 5:26pm, the number of outages reported on Downdetecter had fallen significantly to just 83 compared with more than 18,000 reports recorded at 4:40pm.


Reddit is a social news and forum website where registered users can submit content in the form of either a link or a text post. Other users then vote the submission "up" or "down", which is used to rank the post and determine its position on the site's pages.
